LQHBA Announces New $50,000-added LQHBA Breeders' Oaks to Join LQHBA Breeders' Derby In 2025

LQHBA will add the $50,000-added LQHBA Breeders Oaks to its December 2025 stakes schedule for state-bred 3-year-old fillies.

ALEXANDRIA, LA–FEBRUARY 26, 2025–LQHBA announced today a new format for accredited state-bred 3-year-olds eligible for their final sophomore races at the end of the year.

The $50,000-added LQHBA Breeders' Oaks for fillies will join the $50,000-added LQHBA Breeders Derby, now for colts and geldings.

"Each race has an estimated purse of $150,000," LQHBA Executive Bruce Salard said. "Both will be contested over a distance of 350 yards."

The nomination payment of $200 for each race is due on or before April 1, 2025. Horsemen and women are urged to use certified or trackable mail for all stakes payments.

To be eligible to nominate a horse to these two races, they must have remained eligible for the 2024 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1) run at Evangeline Downs last December. CLICK HERE to see if your horse is eligible to enter.

LQBHA has mailed nomination forms to horses on the eligible list. However, nomination forms are also available by calling the office at (318) 487-9506.
